Born and lived at Southwell, Nottinghamshire, Son of Alfred P. and Sonata Barlow, of Westgate, Southwell, Nottinghamshire. He was a threader at E. Carey & Sons, Southwell, prior to enlisting at Southwell. He went to France on 2nd March 1915 and was killed in action on 1st July 1916, in the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
