Sergeant Gerald Walker Barlow

Born and lived at Lowdham, Nottinghamshire. Son of Edwin and Sarah Barlow, of ‘Stoneleigh’, Plumtree, Nottinghamshire. Husband of Hilda Edith of ‘Charnwood’, Lowdham. He was a drapery warehouseman prior to enlisting on 14th June 1915 at Nottingham. He was appointed Lance Corporal 24th July 1915 and promoted Corporal 17th August 1915, and Sergeant 20th October 1915. He went to France on 6th March 1916 and was killed in action, 3rd September 1916, in the attack on the German positions at Beaumont Hamel, France during the Battle of the Somme.
