Born at Retford, Nottinghamshire and lived at Shirebrook, Derbyshire. Son of Henry and Harriet Barlow, of 48, Warren Terrace, Shirebrook. He was a boiler fireman prior to enlisting on 7th June 1916 at Warsop Vale, Nottinghamshire. He went to France on 8th May 1917 and was posted to the 2/8th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 3rd June 1917. He was posted 2/5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 29th January 1918 and died of wounds, 16th April 1918, aged 20, at Kassel prisoner of war camp hospital, Germany.
