He lived at 18 Agnes Street, Arkwright Street, Nottingham. Son of Evans and Esther Barkworth, of 4, Albion Square, Greyfriars, Nottingham. He was a Foundry Plate Moulder prior to enlisting on 8th May 1915 at Nottingham. He went to France on 6th March 1916 and was killed in action, 3rd September 1916, whilst supporting the attack (carrying parties) near Beaumont Hamel, France during the Battle of the Somme.
Buried: Knightsbridge Cemetery, Mesnil-Martinsart, France. Row F. Grave 11.
