Born and lived at Heanor, Derbyshire. Adopted son of Joseph and Sarah Barks. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Derby and went to France on 14th July 1915 and died of wounds, 6th March 1916, age 19, at No. 1 Canadian General Hospital, Etaples, France.
