Born at Twodales, Derbyshire and lived at 7 Hazel View, Twodales. Son of William and Salome Eliza Barker, of 7, Hazel View, Twodales. He was a nurseryman for James Smith Nurseries at Darley Dale, Derbyshire, prior to enlisting 1st April 1914 at Matlock, Derbyshire. He went to France on 25th February 1915 and suffered gunshot wounds to his head on 1st July 1916 at Gommecourt, France. He died of wounds on 10th July 1916, aged 30.
