Born at Greenstead, Essex. Son of Charles and Susannah Barker, of 72, East Street, Colchester, Essex. He was a general labourer prior to enlisting 26th September 1907. He served in India from the 4th February 1908 to the 2nd September 1914. He went to France on 4th November 1914 and was wounded in his back and admitted to 14th General Hospital, Wimereux, France, on 21st November 1914. He was evacuated to England on Hospital Ship Carisbrook Castle, 25th November 1914. He returned to France on 18th March 1915 and was killed in action, 9th May 1915 during the attack on Rouge De Bout, France, as part of the Second Battle of Artois.
