Born in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire and lived at Ripley, Derbyshire. Son of Ebenezer and Ruth Hannah Barker, of Butterley Hill, Ripley, Derbyshire. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Derby. He went to France 4th November 1914 and was killed in action, 25th February 1915, aged 22, whilst serving in the line near Richebourg, France
