Private Ezra Barke

Battalion: 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Born at Newstead, Nottinghamshire and lived at 142, Beardall Street, Hucknall, Nottinghamshire. Son of Daniel and Sarah Barke of 4 Woodstock Street, Hucknall, Nottinghamshire. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting on 15th July 1909 at Derby. Served in India and went to France on 4th November 1914. He received shell wounds to his scalp on 6th July 1915 and was treated at No.2 Casualty Clearing station, transferred to Etaples, France, and then Harfleur, France. He later returned to his battalion and was killed in action on 16th September 1916, aged 27, during the attack on the German line near Guillemont, France.
