Born and lived in Ipswich, Suffolk. Son of Edward John and Kathleen Annie Bardwell, of 55, Sirdar Road, Ipswich, Suffolk. He was a clerk prior to enlisting into the 27th Training Battalion, 26th September 1917 at Bury St. Edmonds. Suffolk. He was posted to the 52nd Training Battalion, 2nd February 1918 and went to France on 6th April 1918. He was transferred to the 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 7th April 1918. He was killed in action on 6th May 1918, whilst in the line near Mesnil, France.
