Born in Melbourne, Derbyshire and lived at Castle Donington, Leicestershire. Son of William and Alice Barber, of 16, Castle Street, Melbourne. Husband of Fanny Rose Barber, of Mount Pleasant, Castle Donington, Leicestershire. He was a gardener’s labourer prior to enlisting at Melbourne. He was killed in action, 27th March 1918, aged 27, during the German offensive near Curlu Wood, France.
