Born and lived at Duckmanton, Derbyshire. Son of James and Selina Barber, of 142, Arkwright Town, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He was a blacksmith striker prior to enlisting at Chesterfield. He was accidentally drowned, 14th May 1917, aged 26, at London Hall, Staffordshire.
