Born and lived at Derby. Son of Albert and Clara Bancroft, of 60, Rivett Street, Derbys. He was a moulder prior to enlisting on 31st May 1915 at Derby. He went to France on 13th March 1916 and was killed in action, 1st July 1916, in the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
