Born and lived at South Normanton, Alfreton, Derbyshire. Son of Thomas and Catherine Bamford, of 39, Church Street, South Normanton. He was a Coal Miner prior to enlisting at Chesterfield, Derbyshire, on 18th June 1915. He went to France on 7th October 1915 and was killed in action, 5th February 1916, aged 27, during the German shelling of the ramparts at Ypres, Belgium.
