Born in Nottingham and lived at Hutton Street, Colwick Road, Nottingham. Son of Thomas and Ellen Bamford; Husband of M. E. Buerckner (formerly Bamford), of Wagga Wagga, New South Wales. He was a letterpress printer (and a local singer) prior to enlisting on 18th September 1914 at Nottingham. He went to France on 25th February 1915 and suffered gunshot wounds to his jaw, 31st August 1915. He died of wounds 2nd September 1915, aged 27, at No. 10 Stationary Hospital, St. Omer, France.
