Born and lived at Burton-Upon-Trent, Staffordshire. Son of John and Rosa Ball, of 8 Walker Street, Burton-Upon-Trent. He was a shop boy prior to enlisting at Derby. He died of wounds, 25th September 1918, at No. 47 Casualty Clearing Station at Brie, France.
