Lance Corporal John Henry Baker

Born and lived at Church Gresley, Derbyshire. Son of Henry and Izabella Baker, of 4, Edward Street, Albert Village, Church Gresley. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting on 6th November 1914 at Swadlincote, Derbyshire. He went to France on 3rd March 1916, was appointed Lance Corporal, 4th September 1916 and was killed in action, 8th March 1917, age 30, whilst on a patrol, trying to ascertain the strength of the Germans, in Rettemoy Graben, near Foncquevillers, France.
