Sergeant Harry Baker

Battalion: 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Bermondsey, London. Son of Harry and Elizabeth Baker, of Bilsby, Lincolnshire. Husband of Mabel Baker, of 32 Yates Street, Derby. He was a messenger prior to enlisting on 27th April 1908 in London. He was appointed Lance Corporal on 15th July 1909 and promoted Corporal on 19th May 1912. He was promoted to Sergeant on 19th September 1914, went to France on 14th June 1916 and was killed in action on 5th July 1916 in the attack on the German positions at La Boisselle, France, during the Battle of the Somme.
