Private Charles Baker

Battalion: 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Walsall, Staffordshire and lived at Blackpool, Lancashire. Son of William and Phoebe Baker, of The Cottage, Norbreck Hydro, Norbreck, Blackpool. He was a poultry farmer prior to enlisting on 30th May 1917. He was posted to the 71st Training Battalion, 2nd June 1917 then transferred to the 5th Battalion Manchester Regiment, 27th November 1917. He went to France on 30th March 1918 and was transferred to the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 4th April 1918. He was killed in action, 27th May 1918, aged 19, whilst the battalion was in a retiring fight to Montagne de Guyancourt, France.
