Born and lived at Douglas, Isle of Man. Son of John and Christian Baird, of 5, Grafton Street, Douglas, Isle of Man. He was a baker prior to enlisting on 15th January 1917 at Douglas, aged 17. He went to France on 30th March 1918 with the 20th Manchester Regiment and transferred to the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 4th April 1918. He was killed in action, 27th May 1918, whilst the battalion was in a retiring fight towards, Montagne de Guyancourt, France.
