Battalion: 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Born at Staveley, Derbyshire and lived at Shirebrook, Derbyshire. Husband of Mary Elizabeth Bailey, of 7, Portland Road, Shirebrook. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Chesterfield, Derbyshire, 11th June 1915 and went to France on 2nd January 1916. He was killed in action, 14th February 1916, aged 34, during heavy German shellfire and the explosion of a German mine, prior to the German attack of the front line trenches, near the canal to the south-east of Ypres, Belgium.
