Born at lived at Stoney Middleton, Derbyshire. Son of Peter and Olive Bailey, of Stoney Middleton. He was a shoemaker prior to enlisting on 1st May 1913 at Stoney Middleton. He went to France on 25th February 1915 and was killed in action, on 12th March 1916, whilst serving in the trenches near Mont St. Eloi, France.
