Born at Thurlestone, Derbyshire. and lived at Bretby, Derbyshire. Husband of Ida Eveline Bailey, of 63, Oversetts Road, Newhall, Burton-On-Trent, Staffordshire. He was a groom prior to enlisting on 11th December 1915 at Burton-on-Trent. He went to France on 16th February 1917 and suffered gunshot wounds to his legs on 26th April 1917. He died of wounds at No. 5 Casualty Clearing Station, 1st May 1917, aged 38, Bray Sur Somme, France.
