Battalion: 16th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born and lived at Long Bennington, Grantham, Lincolnshire. Son of George and Ruth Bailey, of Gipsy Hall, Long Bennington. He was a farm labourer prior to enlisting on 2nd February 1914. He went to France on 9th February 1915 with the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He was killed in action, 3rd September 1916, aged 22, during the attack near Beaumont Hamel, France during the Battle of the Somme with the 16th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
