Born in Freetown, East Africa. Son of John Anthony and Mary Wase Bailey, of Greenhaven, Rumburgh, Halesworth, Suffolk. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant 3/8th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 15th December 1915. He went to France 15th July 1916 and was killed in action 16th December 1916, aged 23, whilst attached 12th Battalion Rifle Brigade
