Born at Newton Grange, Derbyshire and lived at Tissington, Derbyshire. Son of James and Hannah Bailey, of Hanson Grange, Tissington. He was a farmworker prior to enlisting on 13th November 1914 at Buxton. He went to France on 28th June 1915 and was killed in action, 10th April 1916, age 26, whilst in the line near Acq, France.
