Born in Sheffield, Yorkshire and lived at 9 Station Road, Clowne, Derbyshire. Son of Agnes Bagshaw, of Barlborough Road, Clowne, Derbyshire. Brother of George Bagshaw, of 34, Duke Street, Creswell, Derbyshire. He was a coal miner at Shireoaks Colliery, Derbyshire prior to enlisting on 20th March 1912 at Brimington, Derbyshire into the 1/6th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He went to France on 28th February 1915 and was wounded on 5th April 1917 and was transferred to England on 16th April 1917 and was transferred to the 11th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, on his return to France 4th October 1917. He was killed in action, 17th October 1917, aged 25, whilst serving in the line near Zillebeke, Belgium.
