Battalion: 1/5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Born at Stanley Common, Ilkeston, Derbyshire. Son of Joseph and Elizabeth Bacon, of 10 Rutland Terrace, Ilkeston, Derby. He was a coal miner at West Hallam Colliery, Ilkeston. He enlisted on 6th April 1914 at Ilkeston, went to France on 1st March 1915 and was killed in action, 1st July 1916, aged 22, in the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
