Battalion : 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Arnold, Nottinghamshire. Son of James and Elizabeth Atkinson, of Morris Yard, Front Street, Arnold. Was a general labourer. Enlisted at Nottingham 16th September 1907. He suffered a shrapnel wound to his throat on 23rd October 1914. Killed in action, 12th March 1915, aged 26, during the German counterattack at Neuve Chapelle, France.
