Born at Islington, London. Son of Frederick William and Florence Annie Atkinson, of 28, Bateman Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham. He was a newsagent prior to enlisting at Nottingham on 27th May 1915. He went to France on 6th March 1916 and was killed in action, 8th October 1916, aged 21, during the attack on Schwaben Redoubt, near Thiepval, France, during the Battle of the Somme.
