Born at Clay Cross, Derbyshire. Son of Martha Atkins. He enlisted at Chesterfield, Derbyshire, went to France 11th November 1914 and was killed in action, 15th February 1915, during the German attack on the trenches at Troyon, France.

Buried Houplines Communal Cemetery Extension, France. Plot 3, Row C. Grave 50.
