Born in London. Son of the 20th Baron Hastings and of Elizabeth Evelyn, Baroness Hastings, of 2, Clarendon Place, Hyde Park Gardens, London. Husband of Emma Astley. He formerly served in the Ceylon Mounted Rifles as a commissioned officer in the 16th Lancers. He re-enlisted at London 4th October 1916 into the 2/5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He went to France on 3rd February 1917 and was promoted to Corporal 9th April 1917 and Company Sergeant Major on 13th June 1917. He was killed in action, 26th September 1917, aged 32, during the attack on Otto Farm, near Gravenstafel, Belgium.
