Born Scropton, Sudbury, Derbyshire. Son of Isaac and Hannah Askey, of Hare Hill, Boylstone, Sudbury, Derbyshire. Was a farm labourer at East Mammerton, Derbyshire prior to enlisting at Derby on 17th April 1914. He went to France on 11th November 1914 and suffered gunshot wounds in his thigh and penis on 2nd July 1915 and died, 2nd July 1915, aged 24.
