Private William Ashton

Army Number: 109007 (formerly 60925 Manchester Regiment)

Battalion: 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Liverpool, Son of Peter and Mary Ashton, of 21, High Park Road, Dingle, Liverpool. Was a carter prior to enlisting at Liverpool on 18th April 1917. He was posted to the 71st Training Battalion on 23rd May 1917 and transferred to the 5th Battalion Manchester Regiment on 8th December 1917. He went to France on 30th March 1918 and was transferred to the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment on 4th April 1918. He was killed in action, 27th May 1918, aged 19, whilst the battalion was in a retiring fight from Montagne de Guyancourt, France.
