Private John James Ashton

Battalion: 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Son of Mrs Elizabeth Ashton, of 25, Myers Street, Edge Hill, Liverpool. He was a van driver prior to enlisting at Liverpool on 29th March 1916. He went to France on 2nd April 1918 and was transferred to the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment on 3rd April 1918. He was killed in action, 27th May 1918, aged 21, whilst the battalion was in a retiring fight from Montagne de Guyancourt, France.
