Born at Woodhouse, Yorkshire. Son of Mr. Harry and Mary Ann Ashton, of Barrack View, Upper Knowle, Unstone, Sheffield. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Derby 7th June 1918. He went to France 4th October 1918 and was posted to the 11th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and then posted to the 1/5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment on the 9th October 1918. He died of wounds 18th October 1918.
