Private Arthur Ashton

Battalion: 1/5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Derby and lived at Brookside, Belper, Derbyshire. Nephew of Arthur and Kate Ashton, of Tower House, Morton, Bourne, Lincolnshire. He enlisted at Derby on 4th September 1914 and went to France on 1st March 1915. He suffered shrapnel wounds to his right thigh on 15th August 1915 and was treated at 28 Casualty Clearing Station, Abeele, Belgium, on 16th August 1915. He rejoined his battalion on 22nd October 1915 and was killed in action, 7th November 1915, whilst serving in the trenches near Vieille-Chapelle, France.
