Born at Castle Gresley, Derbyshire. Husband of Rebecca Ashmore, of Main Street, Linton, Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire. Lived at Bridge Street, Castle Gresley, Derbyshire. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Derby on 19th February 1916. He went to France on 11th October 1917 and was posted to the 2/8th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment on 13th October 1917 and the 16th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment on 17th October 1917. He was wounded in action on 5th November 1917 and was treated at 132nd Field Ambulance and died of wounds, 6th November 1917, aged 29, at No. 3 Casualty Clearing Station (Remy Siding), Belgium.
