Born at Blidworth, Nottinghamshire. Son of Allen and Sarah Ashley of Main Road, Blidworth Bottoms, Blidworth, Nottinghamshire. Husband of Doris Hodgkinson (formerly Ashley), of The Sun Inn, Town Street, Pinxton, Derbyshire. Lived at Bagthorpe, Derbyshire. He enlisted at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, went to France in July 1915 and was killed in action on 24th March 1918, aged 24, whilst holding the line at Rocquigny, France.
