Lance Corporal William Walton Ashley

Battalion: 1/8th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Born at Lincoln. Son of John William and Hannah P. Ashley, of Shrublands, South Park, Lincolnshire. He was a clerk prior to enlisting at Newark, Nottinghamshire on 7th September 1914. He was appointed Lance Corporal on 15th October 1914 and went to France on 2nd March 1915. He was killed in action, 24th April 1915, aged 23, by German shellfire, whilst serving in the trenches at Kemmel, Belgium.
