Husband of Maud Mary Ashforth, of 77, Dean Street, Derby. Enlisted at Derby on 7th April 1915 and went to France on 18th March 1916. He was appointed Lance Corporal on 24th June 1916 and was killed in action, 1st July 1916, aged 37, in the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
