Born at lived at North Wingfield, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Son of Hannah Roberts (formerly Armstrong), of 76, Mount Pleasant, North Wingfield, Chesterfield. He enlisted at Clay Cross, Derbyshire. He went to France on 11th December 1914 and was killed in action, on 11th March 1915, aged 24, during the Battle of Neuve Chapelle, France.
