Private Charles Edward Arden

Battalion: 2/5th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Son of William and Charlotte Arden, of 39, Croft Street, Lincolnshire. He was a porter prior to enlisting at Lincoln on 10th December 1915. He went to France on 11th July 1916 with the Lincolnshire Regiment and then was transferred to the 12th Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment, 12th September 1916. He suffered severe gunshot wounds to his right leg on 31st July 1917 and was invalided to England on Hospital Ship Ville De Liege. On recovery, he returned to France on 28th March 1918 and was transferred to the 2/5th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment on 30th March 1918. He was killed in action, 14th April 1918, aged 31, during a German attack at Kemmel, Belgium.
