Born at lived at Smisby, Derbyshire. Son of George and Elizabeth Archer. He was an assistant grocer prior to enlisting at Swadlincote, Derbyshire. He was killed in action, 27th September 1917, whilst serving in the trenches near Vlamertinghe, Belgium.

Buried: Perth Cemetery (China Wall), Belgium. Plot 1, Row G, Grave 20.
