Formerly Lieutenant with the 4th Battalion Derbyshire Regiment, re-enlisted into the 13th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment 13th February 1915. Joined the 14th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment 21st January 1916 being attached to the 11th Battalion. He went to France on 17th July 1916 and was killed in action, 4th August 1916, whilst serving in the line near Mametz Wood, France during the Battle of the Somme
