Private Joseph Appleby

Battalion: 2nd Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Gateshead, County Durham. Son of Thomas Watson and Elizabeth Appleby, of 30, Kitchener Terrace, Wallsend, Northumberland. He was a labourer prior to enlisting at North Shields, Tyne and Wear on 12th October 1903. He served in India from 19th December 1906 to 1st November 1911. He went to France on 8th September 1914 and was killed in action, 9th August 1915, aged 30, during the attack at Sanctuary Wood, Belgium.
