Born at Arnold, Nottinghamshire. Son of James and Eliza Anthony of 5 St. Albans Cottage, Front Street, Arnold. He was a banksman for the Gedling coal company and lived at Leverton Row, Front Street, Arnold. He enlisted at Newark, Nottinghamshire, on 31st August 1914 and went to France on 2nd August 1915. He was killed in action during the attack at Hohenzollern Redoubt, France, on 14th October 1915, aged 28.
