Corporal George Anthony

Battalion: 1st Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Born at Beighton, Sheffield. Son of Joseph and Mary Anthony, of 193, Manvers Road, Beighton, Sheffield; husband of Alice Anthony, of 16, Alfred Street, Millfield, Sunderland. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting on 29th June 1909 at Derby. He served in India from 27th January 1912 to 2nd September 1914. He went to France on 4th November 1914 and was admitted to No. 6 General Hospital, Rouen, France suffering from Malaria on 12th February 1915. He was transferred to England on 13th February 1915 and on recovery, returned to France on 29th February 1916. He was promoted Corporal 9th October 1916 and was killed in action, 4th April 1917, age 28, during the attack at Heudicourt, France.
