He was born at Underwood, Nottinghamshire and lived at Heanor, Derbyshire. Son of Sarah Anthony and husband of Jessie Anthony. He was a miner prior to enlisting at Nottingham on 6th August 1914. He went to France on 27th December 1914. He was attached to the 177th Tunnel Company, Royal Engineers 7th July 1917 and was posted to the 17th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment 14th September 1917. He was killed, 20th September 1917, in action during the attack at Klein Zillebeke, Belgium.
