Private George Anstey

Battalion: 1st Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born and lived at Sidmouth, Devon. Son of William and Louisa Anstey, of 2, The Crescent, Temple Street, Sidmouth, Devon. He was a baker prior to enlisting at Axminster, Devon 6th November 1915. He went to France on 7th December 1915 and was posted to the 9th Field Bakery on 16th December 1915. He was posted to the 13th Field Bakery on 2nd September 1916. He was transferred to the Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment on 15th October 1917 joining the 1st Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment on 12th December 1917. He was killed in action, 27th May 1918, aged 22, whilst the battalion was retiring towards Montagne de Guyencourt, France.
